Is there a right to claim for flights canceled due to bad weather?

Are you aware that there are a few airlines that use bad weather as an excuse to not pay for an air claim? There are extreme weather conditions that can make flights get canceled or delayed. However, if the weather conditions might not have been lousy enough to be prohibitive, then a passenger has the right to make a claim.

Be aware of the reason your flight got cancelled

There are airlines that won’t respond to claims and deny it based on stating that there was bad weather. Most passengers are not aware of the real reason why their flight got canceled or delayed. It is a must to ensure that any claim for compensation is properly filed by those who have the experience and the expertise, as there are airlines that will give a run-around to a passenger who is claiming for compensation.

The EU Regulation 261/2004 states that a passenger can get compensated if the bad weather is classified as “wholly exceptional” or “freak.” The weather conditions should be terrible, preventing a safe flight, such as thick fog or heavy snow. Yet, keep in mind that airlines can predict the weather conditions, and may not just cancel because it is snowing or raining hard. Also, keep in mind that the bad weather conditions such as hurricanes and tornados do happen. It might not be in your departure airport but at that of your arrival. There are aviation rules that are in place for restricting flight, and sadly, there are those airlines that will not pay flight compensation as they will use bad weather as the reason for the cancellation or delay.

You are entitled to receive assistance

Many passengers are not aware that if their flight is delayed because of bad weather conditions, the airline must provide them with certain things while they are waiting at the terminal. These things include free food and beverages and to be able to send an email or make a couple of phone calls. The airline also has to provide hotel accommodations if the waiting period is overnight, and also must provide transportation. A passenger is entitled to these things, aside from getting compensation, if the flight is delayed by at least two hours for short-haul, three hours for mid-haul, and four hours for long-haul flights.

Use a professional company

Note that there are many claims for compensation because of flight delay due to bad weather that are approved. If it is a professional flight compensation claim company handles your case, it will be able to get the details to verify if there was truly exceptionally bad weather. You might want to process your own claim, but it is better to let the experts process your claim.

If you plan to file for compensation, you no longer have to get any headache from unresponsive airlines that won’t answer emails and make it difficult to ask for flight compensation over the phone. As an airline passenger, delays don’t have to be that miserable, as you should be provided with food and drinks, plus compensation when the claiming request is approved.
